Thursday January 18th 2018

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Math: Today we wrote the math test. I hope to have them back to you by Monday.
Language/UOI: We finished off writing our stories and then read them to a partner in order to get feedback and suggestions.

Lunch/Recess

Gym: Please see Mr. B's blog for more information.
Grade 1 Market: The students enjoyed buying food from the grade 1 market!

UOI: Today we worked on self and peer editing. I gave them a graphic organizer and the students had to go through their stories using the organizer and make changes as needed. Next a partner went through their story using a peer editing organizer and then the writer made the important changes. We are realizing how important it is to edit and find our mistakes.

Lunch/Recess

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.

Have a good night!

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Math: We did some review from the textbook today. We were having some trouble today as some people are not reading the question properly. It is very important that they are reading the question properly as they are getting answers wrong as a result.

I have sent them all home with their textbooks so you can do extra questions with them for the test tomorrow.

Language/UOI: Today we continued to work on our stories! We are almost done!

Lunch/Recess

Gym: Please see Mr. B's blog for more information.

Tuesday January 16th 2018

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Math: Today we learned the different ways to describe a graph. We looked at a bar graph as a class and learned the many ways of describing it. There are 5 basic ways. These are just a guideline and if they can think of more it is encouraged. They need to think of at least 3 things to say about each graph. We began working on a math worksheet package in class and anything that was not completed is for homework.

Language: We brainstormed other ways of starting dialogue for our stories. I have noticed in their stories that they are saying what they want people to say without using it in a dialogue format. As a result, I have them several scenarios of what they have been doing and they had to put it into dialogue format. We came up with so many different ideas. Next we continued to write the problem in our fractured fairy tales.

Lunch/Recess

UOI: We continued working on our fractured fairy tale. They are turning out really well!

As you are aware, the re-registration season is upon us and we have recently sent home
packages with your child(ren). We value your loyalty and commitment to our school
community and would love to continue our partnership by offering priority enrollment for our
current SJA families.

We kindly ask that you take a moment to review your financial statement and complete the
information in the package and make any necessary changes to your place of residence,
employment, email changes or any medical information that the administration should be
aware of.

Please be aware that in order to secure your child’s enrolment, it is imperative that you submit
your re-enrollment package and fees no later than February 12, 2018 at 4:00pm. After this
date, all available grade-level spaces will be open to our families on waitlists who will then have
the opportunity to secure any vacant positions.

5. Fire Alarm:
This email is to inform you that we experienced an unexpected fire alarm this morning in the building. SJA staff did an amazing job evacuating the students safely and in a timely fashion from the building. Students were outside for ten minutes waiting in line while we followed proper protocol to ensure every child was accounted for. At this time, we then made our way over to Meadowvale rinks to have shelter from the cold. Once the fire department gave the go ahead we returned back to the building. There is no need for alarm or concern the building and students are safe and secure.

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Math: Today we talked about Venn diagrams. We reviewed what they are and they told me that a Venn diagram compares two things and the middle is what they have in common. We did an example together on the board in which they told me where each shape went and why it went there. Next we did some work in the textbook.

Music: Please see Mr. Oliver's blog for more information.
Spelling: Spelling is due on Thursday and the test is on Friday.

UOI: Today we continued working on fractured fairy tale. The students are working on the build up of the story. We have been working together in order to understand what areas of a story should be described in great detail. They have been encouraged to use figurative language in their story as it will help to increase the description in their fairy tale. Please point out the level of description in the books you are reading at home s it will help in their writing as well.

Jump rope for heart: We are now participating in Jump Rope for Heart! Some information has been sent home tonight and stay tuned for more information.
