Hello,

Manny brought in his robot that he worked very hard on over the christmas break. He had to build it from scratch so he wanted to show his hard work! It was really cool! Take a look!

Here is what we did today.

Cursive: First we worked on some cursive writing.
Language: Today we worked on cause and effect. First we talked about what it meant and I gave some examples. Next we listened to a book on youtube called "Alexander and the terrible, awful no good very bad day". Next we found the cause and effect relationships in that and within our daily life. Finally we wrote down three cause and effect relationships within our own lives and made paper chains! They had fun!

Lunch/Recess

Language: We finished our paper chains.
UOI: Today we talked about the needs and wants of a community. We discussed what a community needs and what they would want to have. Each group was given a set of items and they had to decide if it was a need or a want. Next they had to order them in terms of importance. They were communicators and were open minded to other people's ideas. They did very well!

Math: Today we worked on grids! We talked about what a grid is and how we count on them using the lines and not the spaces. Next we did a scavenger hunt around the hallways in order to find their groups special envelope they had to follow the instructions as if the hallways were a grid. They had lots of fun!

We finished some math and then packed up for the house game!

Here is what we did today.

UOI: Today we worked on more projects! Stay tuned for more videos!
Language: Today we worked on possessive pronouns. We talked about what they are and then did a scavenger hunt in which they needed to complete a sentence with the correct possessive pronoun.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we did a math pretest for motion geometry.
UOI: Today we talked about urban vs rural. First we watched video in which explained what the difference is. Next we did a venn diagram in which we put pictures and words on it to explain the difference. Finally they did their own venn diagram. It was sent home for homework if it is not finished.

Here is what we did on Friday. 

Spelling: Tests have been handed back and should be returned on Monday. 

Language: We worked on reading through passages to understand words we don't know. Some people worked on DRAs.

Math: We completed the math test. They will be handed back when everyone has completed it.

UOI:  Today we started a new unit on country vs City! We wrote down on a stickie note what we know so far. Next we read through some books to see what we want to know more about. They are very interested in the topics! Lastly we finished with reading some books! One was called "Country Mouse and City Mouse". The last book was called "Here and There".

Hot Lunch

Just a reminder that lunch forms are due tomorrow! Several people that normally have hot lunch have not handed in their forms yet. If it is not in tomorrow then hot lunch will not be available for this month as the website will close down.

Here is the list of instructions for signing up for hot lunch. 

Below are the instructions on how to order and how to pay:

1.     Visit http://mydigitalmailroom.com/sja/login.php

2.     Click on the link Don't have an account? Register and register your child based on your email address, their grade, and classroom teacher name. (you can register more than one child by using separate emails)

3.     Verify your email account through the email sent

4.     Log-in and look for the tab manage lunch on the top left of the page

5.     Select add new lunch form

6.     Select student name and payment method

7.     Check off the boxes for your selections for each day

8.     Press save

9.     The program will then take you to a screen that will give you the total you owe for the month

10.  Please place amount owing (in agenda) in a zip lock bag clearly labelled with student first and last name as well as teacher name.

Here is what we did today.

IB Binders: We reflected on our work and added pieces of work into our IB binders.
Language: Today we started talking about letters that include rules and routines. Today we focused on planning. Our plan included "who" and "why". The who was "who are we writing to". This included feelings and reasons why the person may be feeling this way. the why was "why are we writing". It had two sections which were rules and routines. Today we did a plan together on the board and then they started writing their own. The topic was a friend was coming for a sleepover and you wanted to tell them the rules and routines of your house. They loved it!

Hello,

Here is what we did on Year ahead day!

Language: Today we talked about nouns, verbs and adjectives. First we reviewed what they mean and then made a list of different nouns, verbs and adjectives that we could think of. Next we made cards for charades! We played noun, verb and adjective charades and they had fun. Next we played Apples to Apples. Each child was given four cards with adjectives on it. Next we had a picture in which they had to decide which of their cards described the best. It was a little silly and they loved it!

Lunch/Recess

UOI: Today we learned about forces and motion! We talked about pushing and pulling forces. We explained that a push force is when an object moves away from you. A pulling force is when an object moves toward you. Next we found objects in the classroom that had a push and a pulling force. Finally we used scooters with a skipping rope attached to practice pushing and pulling force! They had so much fun!

Math: Today we played addition bingo in which they had to practice their mental math skills! Then we played a game in which they had to race to write down the answers.

Daily Five: Today we played several games! They had lots of fun!

UOI: Today we did a small force and motion quiz that they LOVED! We were suppose to do presentations today but they were writing so much and were so into the quiz we didnt have time! We will be continuing when we are back in class on Thursday.
Math: Today we reviewed time, calendar and temperature for the test on Friday.

Hello,

Here is what we did today.

Spelling: Today we did lesson 15. Spelling is due Thursday and the test is on Friday.
Language: Today we worked on Adverbs. We talked about how an adverb can describe a verb, adjective or another adverb. However, today we focused on just how they can describe a verb using the "ly" words. First we made a list on the board of different adverbs we could think of. Next we played a charades game in which they had to act out that word. For example, if the word was quickly they ran quickly. The kids had to guess what the word was. We ended the period with a page in their language book.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we worked on Gram and kilogram. We all felt 1g and 5g in order to understand how heavy they were. Next we talked about what was equal to 1kg. We figured out that a bag of flour was 1 kg. We used this to find out which objects were less or more than a kg. We estimated the amounts of different objects. We also talked about using the word "approximately" as these were just estimates. We finished with work from the textbook.

Hello,

Here is what we did on Friday.

International Day: The kids practiced their parts for international day and we shared all of our final information on our sections so we ensured we knew a lot about Italy.

Lunch/Recess

Math: Today we talked about Litre and Millilitre. We knew that 1000 ml= 1L. We also practiced this through pouring different amounts of water into different containers in order to visually see how they fit into each other.

****note: There was several very hard questions in the homework on Friday night. Questions like this will not be on the test as they are very hard ****

UOI: We finished off our forces summative and made changes when it was needed.
